I have limited knowledge of the technical details of movements, and have been wondering about the progression of the 12" movements. I have not seen a 449, but the 450 is a beautiful and nicely decorated movement, the 478 lacks the decoration (at least from what I have seen), and then the 480 has it again with other modifications. I wonder about the technical aspect of the progression. Were there simplifications for cost savings, and also decoration that might be seen as a marketing advantage? Or were these a progression of movements that built on the base calibre and had different presentations-or both? I wish I knew more about the import of the mechanics of watch movements, and can learn, but I know Zaf and others here have looked at these things and understand the development. | ||

Hi. It's a little hard to answer this question as most of the 12 1/2 ligne movements had different available levels of finish and there isn't necessarily a 'progression' from the early calibers to the later ones. |
