Hello: First post / first vintage watch. I'm about to finalize the deal on a JLC but I wanted to see if might benefit from some of the collective wisdom on this board. Seller (in Italy) represents that watch is in excellent condition and "perfect already revised" (Not sure what went into the translation app but that is what came out). To my inexperienced eyes nothing seems wildly wrong: crown may have been replaced, dial may have been refinished. I noticed that the caseback doesn't have sn or markings on the outside, but the wear on the left side seems to line up with the front. Any red flags? Fake or franken? Any thoughts on value range? Many thanks for any help. |

I'm sure that Zaf will have more to say, but I would run the other way from this one. 1. Dial is a very inaccurate redial. These generally were either red or blue printing on white. 2. The movement is marked "LeCoultre", while dial is marked "Jaeger-LeCoultre". Danger! 3. Case looks wrong, wrong, wrong. No Swiss or US hallmarks. I've never seen any JLC/LeC case marked this way. I would be shocked if it tested out as solid 14K. 4. Movement holder doesn't fit movement properly. The only thing that I see here that is original to this watch is the movement. Everything else is questionable or fake. Please do not buy this one unless you need to movement for another project, gatorcpa |

Gatorcpa, Thanks for the input, although I am obviously disappointed. I had seen the thread below in the archives and took some false confidence. Guess I need to head back to the shallow end of the pool. http://www.classicwatch.com/discus/messages/622/40004.html?1269033190 |

Dial is redone to make it look European, and it appears to be a re-case. Nothing to see here, move along! Almost all US watches of this era will state "Cased and timed in the USA by LeCoultre" on the case back. They will also have a LeCoultre printed dial. |
