My neighbor wants me to sell this watch for him, and I know very little about watches. All I've been able to figure out is that it is a Powermatic - am I right? It doesn't work, so is it even worth selling/getting it repaired? I don't want to go to the trouble of listing it if it's not worth anything, so any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!faceinside

It's a Powermatic as you suggest. It's also a nice collectible watch, so it's probably worth a couple of hundred dollars to get it fixed up.

The dial and hands look original, which is not common on these radium watches. In many cases, the chemical reactions coupled with moisture from improper care caused these dials to deteriorate badly. But not your example.

You might be surprised at what you receive on eBay for this one, even as a non-running watch.

Hope this helps,

Thank you very much for your response - I'm glad to know I was on the right track. After I posted this, a friend of ours looked at the watch and said that all that was wrong with it was that a spring was not attached to something or other - at any rate, he fixed it and I wore it for two days, during which it kept perfect time. So I listed it on eBay, and it just sold today for $610. Sounds like the person who bought it got a fair deal, and since we had no idea what to expect, it was indeed a nice surprise for us as well.

This is a great forum, by the way - I've already learned a lot here and after this experience, I'm eager to learn more. I have always liked vintage watches anyway, but now I'm actively looking for some more good ones and I think I've found some already (a Girard-Perregaux and a couple of others)- I'm posting pictures of them and hopefully you folks will let me know how I'm doing. Thanks again for your help - I really appreciate it!
