Is there anything special with a stainless steel Hamilton? It has a round upper body about 29mm with right angle lugs and a Hamilton mark snap back. The Hamilton signed [arc shaped] black dail looks like military with railway track and sub-second. Movement is cal 980 with serial no. G375891. Have seen lots of solid gold, gold filled model but not a 100pct stainless steel made. Education appreciated in advance. Thanks. |

Sukab, Hamilton made over 100 all stainless steel models over the years, although you're right, the number of steel models is much smaller than those made of gold or gold-filled. It should also be noted that until Hamilton choose to compete with inexpensive brands like Bulova and Timex in the early to mid 1950's they never made a watch with a combination gold-filled and steel case. Any Hamilton watch from an earlier point in time with a gold-filled top and steel back is not a real Hamilton. Most of the stainless steel Hamilton models were produced in the 1950's and many had automatic Swiss movements. Some are quite collectible, such as the asymmetrical mechanical model "A-504" and the electric model the "Regulus". If you could provide an image of your watch I would be happy to identify the model name and give you additional information on it. Best, Don |

Sukab, The watch is the Hamilton "Lexington" model circa 1941-1942. It was the only stainless steel Hamilton offered at that point in time. It is also unusual in that it contained the Hamilton grade 980 movement - a tonneau shaped movement in a round case. That is why the case back is not round. Best, Don |

Don, thanks for the education. I buy this watch because of the case material and got no understanding on the details. I paid about USD150 on it does it worth that amount of money? rgds Charles |
