Hi This watch was my Grandfather's, who was not in the military, but it does have military markings (the BroadArrow). I have very little other info about it, although it looks as though it was presented to him in May 1948, although the Longines serial number (6904484) I think dates from from 1944. My G'father worked for Boulton Paul (the aircraft maker) which I assume the initials 'B.P.A' engraved on the case refer to, but I do not know what the 'S and WS' refer to. Is it a military watch? Is it a 1268N movement? It's probably not seen the light of day for 25 years so what needs to be done in terms of maintenance. It winds ok and seems to keep time well. Many Thanks Matt

Interesting watch. The dial is that of a Longines C.O.S.D. paratrooper watch as is the movement caliber. I can't tell for sure if it is a military piece or if it has been put together from post war surplus. I would not expect to find this dial & movement in a civilan Dennision case, but who knows? I'm sure no one in the 1940s though any of this stuff would be collectible 60 years later! |
