My father gave me his Longines men's watch that was purchased around 1976. Both the case and the band are 14 carat. It is a little small for my wrist and I would like to have it made bigger with the existing band. Would you recommend having it made large or should I just leave it alone and keep it as a sentimental piece. Could you tell me what it is worth? |

Probably around $900-$1100 due mostly to the gold content, it's ok to extend the length... |

Most good jewelers can extend the "ladder" part of the clasp by adding additional gold "rungs". I have to do this frequently for my personal watches with fixed bands since I have a huge 8-3/4 inch wrist. A talented jeweler can make the job look almost factory original. Alternately, another cheap/simple fix is to purchase a bracelet clasp extender (available in many watch supply houses or eBay for $5-$10) to add length. These extenders add an additional gold-plated fold-over clasp that you can attach without tools or soldering and remove if you decide to sell the watch. Greg |
