Founded 1841 in St. Imier by Julien Bourquin, the brand ultimately became best known for military timepieces, artillery timers, dash clocks and chronographs.

Heuer acquired the "Leonidas" brand in the early 1960s, with the combined company marketing watches under the "Heuer-Leonidas" name.
